Careers360: Is your B-School application open? What are the factors of the application process?
Dr. R. Gopal: Yes, For the MBA admission 2016 - 18 batch, the admission process to DYPUSM is open. The application process is open till the month of April /May 2016. However if we reach the sanctioned intake earlier we will close it earlier also. The application process takes into account the applicants’ past academic record, results of the DYPCET exam, and PI.
Careers360: What is the total intake of the flagship Management programme at your institute?
Dr. R. Gopal: The total intake for the flagship program is 300 seats. The annual fee is Rs.2.75 lakhs for the first year, and for the second year it is Rs.2.65 lakhs.
Careers360: What is your selection criterion for MBA programme for academic session 2016-18?
Dr. R. Gopal: The selection process involves the following step:
Candidates have to first and most importantly clear the eligibility criteria i.e. they must have minimum 50% marks at the graduation level. Qualifying candidates will be called for the DYPCET (DY Patil Common Entrance Test), and then for a personal interview round.
The school does not take a GD. Additionally; the school also considers other exams like CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT etc. as equivalent to the DYPCET. It is, however, compulsory for students to appear in the Personal Interview round.
Weight-ages are given in the case of students having a work experience (10%), sports (5%), first class in the past education (5%)
Careers360: What is your take on replacing GD with WAT? How is WAT helpful for the selection of candidates?
Dr. R. Gopal: Replacing GD with WAT is a right move. Since the number of multinational companies is emerging in India; they require quantitative analysis techniques and written skills. So it is important to scrutinize the students on the basis of their Structural writing communication abilities.
Careers360: What are the factors that influence student’s selection at the Personal Interview stage?
Dr. R. Gopal: Communication skills, presentation style and the ability to analyse the given situation are the most important qualities that we look in a candidate at personal interview rounds. Students must be ready to face questions and they must be confident to reply with honesty.
Careers360: What makes your campus life or residential programme interesting and distinctive from others?
Dr. R. Gopal: For DYPUSM (D.Y Patil University School of Management), it is always Student First approach. DYPUSM strives to ensure that every student is a success story.
This is possible only when the student develops himself holistically. At DYPUSM, the student has an opportunity to discover himself through live projects, case studies, group workings, participation in conferences, simulation exercises in finance, marketing etc. (including simulation exercises in entrepreneurship).
Additionally, the student has the opportunity to participate in social entrepreneurship programs. DYPUSM encourages the students to undertake live projects, short duration projects etc. The Director of the school has an Open Door policy for the students. Students participate in Yoga, Blood Donation Camps, Social projects etc. Case studies and lectures conducted at the virtual class-room where international and industry personnel interact with the students although being miles away helps the overall development.
